Maverik plans 24-hour gas station and store off Avalon Avenue

Written with AI

The 5.66-acre project would bring 17 fueling positions, EV charging and a roughly 6,000-square-foot store — but it needs a Planning Commission permit first.

YUCCA VALLEY — A Maverik convenience store and fueling station is planned for a 5.66-acre site off Avalon Avenue, according to project documents filed with the Town of Yucca Valley.

The proposal calls for a roughly 5,951-square-foot store with twelve fuel dispensers under a canopy out front and five more dispensers with a separate canopy for commercial fueling on the side of the building — 17 fueling positions in all. The store would sell packaged beer and wine, tobacco and fresh food items, with restrooms open to the public. It would operate 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Because the site is zoned commercial-general, the project needs a conditional use permit from the Planning Commission before construction can begin.

Maverik runs more than 800 stores across 20 states. The company says the Yucca Valley location would employ 15 to 18 people.

The site plan shows 34 standard parking stalls, eight EV-capable spaces — six of them EV-ready — two accessible stalls and bike parking near the store entrances. Two driveways would connect the site to Avalon Avenue, and the project would relocate existing Southern California Edison overhead power lines along the property.

The building design calls for metal roof elements, fiber cement, cultured stone and a glass storefront, with the fuel canopy built from the same materials. Underground fuel tanks would be double-walled fiberglass with a vapor recovery system and electronic leak detection. The plans also include an RV dump and air station, and the northeastern corner of the property would keep its existing natural landscaping.

Project details come from a June 5, 2026 project description filed with the town. A hearing date for the conditional use permit has not been announced.
