$3.2 million road project covers nearly 30 miles around Yucca Valley
Written with AIChip-seal and repaving work is underway across Yucca Mesa and nearby streets, funded mostly by state gas-tax money.
YUCCA VALLEY — County road crews are at work on a $3.217 million chip-seal and pavement rehabilitation project covering about 29.4 miles of roads in and around Yucca Valley.
Most of the work is in Yucca Mesa: Aberdeen Drive between Highway 247 and Center Avenue, Yucca Mesa Road from Buena Vista to Aberdeen, Avalon Avenue and roughly 50 neighborhood streets between them. Burns Canyon Road near Rimrock and a short stretch of La Contenta Road are also on the list.
The county's $3.169 million share comes from SB 1 gas-tax funds. About two-thirds of a mile of the work — segments of Aberdeen Drive and Avalon Avenue — sits inside town limits, and Yucca Valley will reimburse the county an estimated $48,000 for that portion. The Town Council approved the agreement in July.
The project covers paved, county-maintained roads only. Dirt roads in the area are not part of the work.
